“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. ‘I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.’” (Luke 12:6-8)
It is amazing, when you stop to think about the personal, intimate nature of God with His creation, those created in His image, people. In the world today, there are about 8.1 billion people. (www.worldometers.info/world-population) Scientists have estimated that there have been about 117 billion who have ever lived. (Guesstimating from the Population Reference Bureau, Washington D.C.) When Jesus speaks of the intimate nature of God’s knowledge of every individual, it brings us to the depth of His knowledge of each of us.
Jesus speaks of God’s knowledge concerning sparrows. He says that God has not forgotten any of these. If God cares for sparrows, how much more each of us? He even knows the number of hairs on our heads. There is nothing about us which God does not know. This should make each of us stop and think.
God knows everything about you, and He still loves you. He knows every shortcoming. He knows all your failures and struggles. He knows all your tendencies and reactions. He knows all your sin. He also knows your accomplishments and successes. He knows the good which you have done and the people you have helped. He knows everything. And He still loves you.
He also knows that you are separated from Him because of your sin. This is why He sent Jesus. He loves you and has not forgotten you. “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)
Through Jesus Christ, God paid for our sin. We can receive His love for us through Jesus Christ by faith. While God has not forgotten us, many of us have forgotten Him. While He knows everything about us, many of us don’t know Him. All the while Jesus has still demonstrated God’s love for each of us. If you have never put your faith in Jesus Christ today, ask God into your life. Trust what God has done through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, with a desire to follow Him. He will respond with His forgiveness and His presence in your life and will never leave. He has never forgotten you; now He will live with you and you with Him forever.
Now you can walk through each day with Jesus Christ. Spending time in the Bible, the written Word of God and in prayer, so that He can teach and love you through every day of your life, now and forevermore.
If you are already a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, make every day a day where you spend time with God. Remember, He has not forgotten you, make sure you don’t forget Him as you live through this life.
In the Love of Jesus,
Michael Block
