Walking with the Word – God is Omniscient – The Quality of Knowing Everything

“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” (Romans 11:33-34)

“Who has known the mind of the Lord?” The answer is nobody. We can only know what He reveals. How deep are the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God? The answer is unsearchable. “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3) Without God’s revelation, His knowledge and wisdom are beyond what we can think. Part of His revelation is that He knows everything. Elihu asked Job if he knew “those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?” (Job 37:16) The idea of perfect is also complete. Thus, the one with complete knowledge would address Job, “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.” Followed by more questions out of God’s complete knowledge and Job’s lack of knowledge, which causes Job to respond, “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore, I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” (Job 42:5-6) Job now stood in awe of the knowledge of God.

Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, would remind the Disciples of God’s omniscience. “…your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” (Matthew 6:8) “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” (Matthew 5:18) “When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.” (Matthew 7:28-29) God’s knowledge speaks to our needs, the completion of all things, and His own authority. It is through this understanding that Solomon would say, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) It is because of God’s omniscience that we are able to trust Him with our lives.

The Psalms will remind us of God’s complete knowledge. “Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.” (Psalm 119:89-90); “Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.  to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever.” (Psalms 136:3-5) “You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” (Psalm 139:1-6); “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” (Psalm 147:5)

God’s knowledge is everything we know and all things we do not know. His knowledge encompasses all of creation and the sustaining of creation. He has knowledge of all things spiritual, material, eternal, and personal. All true scientific discoveries He had put in place. All true psychological understanding he placed in man as he formed him. All wisdom is located in Who He is. There is no knowledge, understanding or wisdom which did not come from Him.  He knows what is good and what is evil. Nothing surprises Him. Nothing catches Him off guard. Nothing Happens which He does not already know. If we want to know what is true, what is real, what is sure and what is right, then we must turn to Him. If we will trust Him, then we will know what is true, what is reality, what is secure, and what is righteous. He is God. He is omniscient. Hs has complete and perfect knowledge. Let Him be your Lord and your God.

In the Love of Jesus,
