Walking with the Word, The Living Word – Jesus

In the beginning of John’s Gospel, he wants us to know who Jesus is in relationship to His Heavenly Father and His earthly mother. He begins with this introduction, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John1:1 NASB) Jesus is called the “Word.” Who is both with God and is God. Jesus Himself would say in a discussion with the Pharisees, “I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30 NASB) Here we find Jesus and the Father are the same, but both are unique.

The opening of Scripture expresses that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 NASB) Paul would state concerning Jesus the Son of God, “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:16-17 NIV)

Jesus, in the oneness and the unity of God, brings about all of creation. God is one but He is also the Father and the Son, who is the living Word of God.

John would later make this statement concerning the Word, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 NASB)

The Word who was with God, and the Word who was God is now incarnate and has become the Word who became flesh. He is now both God and Man, the Creator has become the created. This is the purpose of the Virgin birth as God is Jesus’ Father and Mary is Jesus’ mother. The creator has become the created. He can now experience what we experience. He can now take our place as a man and yet as God overcome our sin by the perfect sacrifice for us.

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV)

We are now to walk through this life with the living Word of God, Jesus, the Son. Who through His death and resurrection has come to give us life. He has also come to teach us how to live as we walk through this life with Him. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10b NIV) “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; . . .” (John 10:27-28a NIV)

The life we are given though Jesus, the Living Word, is a life we are to live everyday as we learn to follow Jesus Christ. Jesus tells us this life is not easy but is filled with God’s promise which is shown through the resurrection of Jesus. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)

Here is His promise, that “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:4-5a NIV) Let us walk daily with the Living Word of God.

In the Love of Jesus,
